COVID-19 Response: Help for the Community
As a children’s charity, we at Tuppenny Barn are keen to help the community in this time of great need. We have stepped up our normal working model to be able to provide as much fresh produce to those locally. The shop is now open on Thursdays from 9 – 4pm. We are practising strict social distancing, internally and externally, to keep both customers and staff safe.
During the pandemic we were approached to help those families in the community that found it hard to provide food for their families. In response we set up a Hardship Food Fund , specifically to meet this need. We are really grateful initially to the Sussex Community Foundation and Waitrose Chichester for being our first donors to this scheme and thereafter the many other donors including CAF and the National Lottery Recovery Scheme. We were able to raise funds to feed 20 families over a period of 23 weeks. We also established an elderly and vulnerable fresh produce, home made meal and fish delivery subsidised service that made 153 visits within the local community.
