Come and join us at Tuppenny Barn  to learn how to propagate your own plants and so create lots of variety for your flower garden or veg bed for little or no money!

Learn how to sow seeds, take cuttings, lift and divide perennial plants and other techniques.

The course will cover: 

  • The  principles of seed sowing, taking cuttings and dividing plants
  • Choice of Compost for seeds and cuttings
  • Aftercare of your seeds and cuttings
  • Timings for success

By the end of the course you will have gained

  • The opportunity to sow seeds and take your own cuttings
  • Confidence to propagate plants at home
  • Understanding of  the principles of different propagation techniques

The course is suitable for beginners 

No prior experience is needed – some experience of gardening is useful but not essential

Please bring with you

  • Clothing suitable for doing practical activities outdoors – sturdy footwear, warm layers, waterproofs and sun protection (depending on weather)
  • Water bottle
  • Notebook and pen

About The Tutor

Jane Gleeson teaches at Tuppenny Barn and is one of the Horticultural therapists here and also works as a grower at an organic vegetable box scheme.  She has worked in horticulture for over 22 years and  is an experienced ornamental gardener, food grower and horticulture teacher.  Jane trained at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the English Gardening School. For many years Jane was the Horticulture Programme Lead and Head Gardener at Schumacher College in Devon. She has also taught at Hadlow College in Kent teaching RHS and City and Guilds courses. Her passion is for regenerative horticulture and beautiful gardens that allow all nature to flourish.
