Tuppenny Tuesday Night Talks
Regular monthly talks from community figures, local business owners or community groups designed to inform and engage the community on the last Tuesday of every month.
January and our launch talk, sees the inspirational Bianca Carr, founder of The Final Straw Solent talking about how her project started and where it is headed in 2020 as well as opportunity for discussion about how we can all reduce our plastic use.
Bianca is the Founder of Final Straw Solent, a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) working with local communities and businesses to highlight the impact of plastic pollution on our environment and to try to minimise the amount of plastic entering our local seas and wider oceans. They started in Emsworth in 2018 as a group of volunteers giving their time to help clean up our local community spaces and, in time, the surrounding areas. They originally focussed on encouraging businesses to cut back on the amount of disposable, pointless plastic that is used. Bianca and volunteers ran a few beach cleans and started talking to the local communities in the Solent area, and grew from there. The company now works with many different types of businesses on sustainability, helping them to find ethical and sustainable alternatives to single-use plastic in their activities. They have a very busy school outreach programme and have reached thousands of children in the Solent area through assemblies and workshops. In addition, they work with community groups, giving talks and running activities and encouraging people to avoid single-use plastic and how to best dispose of it if they do need to use it.
